I was born and raised in downtown New Orleans into a culture of cooking, music, dance, art, and crafts. My grandfather's hobby was visual art, my dad is a chef, and my grandmother sewed clothing; I freelanced all these talents. As a child, my father registered my siblings and me in dance and music classes. I attended McDonogh 35 Senior High, but due to Hurricane Katrina, I graduated from Westside High in Houston, Texas. After graduating high school, I moved back home and worked full time while attending Delgado, then William Carey for college prerequisites.

I later attended Dillard University School of Nursing in 2012, and I graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I am currently a Registered Nurse aspiring to become a Nurse Midwife. I also completed Doula training with Sista Midwife Productions in November 2014 and became a part of Birthmark Doula Collective shortly after.

People often ask, “What’s your focus?” This is an awkward conversation in one sitting. My focus is my belief. My art tells a story in the form of poetry. As an artist, I feel free to express my vision through creations not limited to sewing, painting, drawing, or craft. It all depends on the message I am sending. I dream of a world where we can live holistically in nature, health, and beauty. Originality and authenticity of species and spirit is my highest value. I am now working my way back into the art world to continue sharing this vision with the world.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love creating in New Orleans because my work tells a story of where I am from, where I am going, and my mission in life. My neighborhood influences my work because New Orleans breathes Africa and most of my work is based on the history of New Orleans African and African American historical influences.

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? The poetry behind the story is developed before, during, or in between the piece. Some pieces I receive a message 1st, then the vision appears. While other pieces won't allow my energy to finish creating until the message is received. Some paintings follow with a ritual. While others do not as respect to unknown collectors religious faith.

Where do you draw inspiration? I am inspired by my mission and the youth in urban communities. Someday I will open an art center not limited to visual art, but performing arts, culinary arts, martial arts, boxing, and writing. I feel the crime in my city is related to the lack of extracurricular activities for the youth and role models to influence them to pursue their destiny.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? God

In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? Secondline, jazz, brass, classical, hip hop, and African music best describe my artwork. These are all genres I listen to create my pieces. It inspires my poetry as well.

Where can we find you when you are not creating art? If I am not doing art business you can catch me in the hospital being a nurse or a doula.

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Winter. Even though I am always cold, I love the winter. I like to say because I am a fall baby. Most babies stay inside until they are a few months old, which would be entering the winter in my case. I love to dress in layers, velvet, suede, leather, and fur.

What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact. I have 7 different personals.

My preferred shipping method is USPS certified mail with tracking which comes with insurance. All original pieces will include additional insurance. Originals will be in a box with numerous layers of protective bubble wrap. Limited prints will be in a cylinder mailing tube with a layer of protective bubble sheet to prevent creases or scrapes for a flat fee of $10.00.
